VISION
Development Missions Network-Ghana aims to harness the skills and expertise of its volunteers to source out human, material and financial resources to meet the health and educational needs among the rural populace in Ghana.
The concept and ethos of DMNG is rooted in the belief that God blesses us to be a blessing to others and also underpinned by the concept of Migration and Development; using the knowledge and skills gained through migration to better lives of others.
The African Diaspora possess a wealth of expertise and are better placed to be advocates and channels of resource procurement and utilisation to make positive impact on the health and educational needs of the underprivileged communities in Africa.
BACKGROUND
In September 2005, in a quest to research on opportunities available to give back to the development initiatives in Ghana, Rita De-Graft, the Founder of DMNG came into contact with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and volunteered in various assignments in the health and education sector in Ghana under the Ghana MIDA Health Project from 2006 to 2012.
Among the various assignments implemented was a Needs Assessment visit to Hia, a rural village in the Ashanti Region in November 2007 which was funded by the IOM’s Ghana MIDA Health Project. The main aim of the Needs Assessment visit was to find out ways to contribute to achieving the Millennium Development Goals. This initial visit paved the way for further collaboration with the community long after the MIDA project ended. Through collaborations with Teachers and health workers in the District, further health and education needs have been identified which are being addressed.
DMNG’s volunteering initiatives are primarily focused on the education and health needs of the underprivileged population in rural Ghana where health and educational facilities and resources are often inadequate.
